WASHINGTON — Democratic U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, one of many longest-serving members of the Texas delegation, died July 19 on the age of 74. In June, Jackson Lee introduced her prognosis of pancreatic most cancers, but she confirmed little indication of letting it intrude together with her plans to run for a sixteenth time period in November.

The fiery congresswoman disclosed her prognosis in a written assertion shortly after successful renomination in a fiercely contested Democratic major. Identified for her dedication to social justice, she was an advocate for reparations for African People and a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump. Not like a few of her colleagues, she didn’t be part of the requires President Joe Biden to step other than the 2024 race.

Jackson Lee was a senior member of the Home Judiciary, Homeland Safety and Finances committees. She was the primary feminine rating member of the Judiciary Subcommittee for Crime and Federal Authorities Surveillance, serving as chair throughout the 117th Congress.

A Yale College graduate, Jackson Lee earned her bachelor’s diploma in political science and later acquired a regulation diploma from the College of Virginia. She is survived by her husband, Elwyn Lee, an administrator on the College of Houston; her two kids, Jason Lee, a Harvard College graduate, and Erica Lee, a Duke College graduate and member of the Harris County College Board; and her two grandchildren, twins Ellison Bennett Carter and Roy Lee Carter III.
