On a 3-1 vote, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors took an official stance Tuesday supporting Proposition 33, which proponents say will enable enlargement of native lease management measures and defend tenants.

If handed in November, Prop 33 would repeal rent-control restrictions enacted below the Costa-Hawkins Rental Housing Act of 1995 and enhance authority for cities and counties to enact residential lease stabilization measures.

Supervisor Holly Mitchell abstained from the vote, whereas Supervisor Kathryn Barger — who has beforehand disagreed with the board on different lease management measures — voted no.

“My ‘no’ vote is a mirrored image of my unwavering perception that including extra lease management insurance policies finally harms housing markets and communities within the long-term,” Barger stated in a press release.
